Science Fiction Book Club Best Fantasy Books of 2006

The Science Fiction Book Club has announced their picks for the best Fantasy Books of 2006.

The winner was The Lies of Locke Lamora, by Scott Lynch. This widely-acclaimed debut novel follows the career of an orphan thief from his beginnings to the height of his success as the leader of a group of bandits.

The SFBC also named 2 runners up in the Fantasy category:

Temeraire: In the Service of the King, by Naomi Novik. This is a collection of the 3 volumes of Novik's Temeraire series: His Majesty's Dragon, Throne of Jade, and Black Powder War. It is an alternate history, retelling the story of the Napoleonic Wars in a Europe where dragons are real and utilized by the armies of the world.

Swords of Riverside, by Ellen Kushner. This is a collection of 2 of Kushner's novels: Swordspoint and Privilege of the Sword. High fantasy, based around swashbuckling swordsmen and swordswomen, not wizards or elves.
